met Pawan today, founder of skyroot, legend from kgp - mech, rk hall, 2012.
he broke a lot of conventional paths.
first, everyone was taking private jobs at graduation - banking/consulting etc or the mech engineers were taking coding jobs, he chose to join ISRO. a govt job that pays less than private jobs.
after a few years at ISRO, he started skyroot. no market for space-tech in india at that time.
2 years ago, Vikram S rocket from skyroot was launched to space. skyroot became the 1st private company to do it in india.
how he raised money?
shared the idea to mukesh bansal who invested in 45 min of talk. entrepreneurs supporting other entrepreneurs (hoping the next kgpian who builds another legendary company like skyroot would raise investment from another kgpian)
he is in bay area for a week and this is pawan’s 1st trip to U.S.
this means, all the success uptil now is attributed to india + kgp tempo + hard work + determination.
this story is enough of a testament that any kgpian can create anything they want.
i was inspired today after hearing his story.
if you are building the next skyroot and need help, don’t hesitate to reach out via this form
we have 50+ investors from kgp reading this newsletter who would want to be a part of your journey and already filled this form
this story also shows that it’s possible to take rockets from rk hall to space.
the real question is, when are we going to see a rocket from pan loop side of kgp?
